Mark Making

For this Illustration I wanted to work a bit on drawing an organic setting, so for my sketch I pretty much only laid out the chunks of land and where Chao would be standing. I used less blending and stronger brush strokes for this landscape because stylistically, it was what felt right.

Idea

The idea of this was to illustrate the concept of independence that you gain over time. Therapists and friends to talk to will be there but at a certain point things get easier to deal with on your own, with the help of coping mechanisms. Also as a sub point of this illustration, it's meant to allude to the fact Chao isn't alone in her struggles. The cat is going back towards the city, which implies there's more, or someone else there that needs the support.

Materials/Technique

I did this piece digitally using procreate, using digital painting techniques I'm comfortable with to do something that I am less comfortable doing, drawing landscapes.

Resources

I used a stock image for a reference photo, only for the layout of how the land would curve around the water, and once again took a bit of stylistic idea from a digital artist going by @artof666k. I did have to look a bit into how water would be illustrated in order to do this.
