Sustained Investigation Post #5 - Appreciation

IDEA
For this piece in my sustained investigation, I want to encompass the idea of showing thanks/appreciation for those who support you in recovery. It also shows the idea of recognizing coping mechanisms can be a healthy thing. The black cat as a character is meant to symbolize hope, healthy coping, and support, generally being the things that encompass recovery in itself. By displaying an endearing moment of the characters in a way, embracing, It is meant to show comfort between the two of them.
MATERIALS
This is done digitally, but I'm considering implementing some faux flowers or even real flowers to symbolize growth as well as to introduce some outside media into my SI. I specifically used clip studio for this illustration over procreate, because the focal point is the characters, and the brush and blending options in CSP are more favorable for this "painterly" style.

Since this concept was something more personal and doesn't have a by-the-book definition, there isn't necessarily research I did to conclude using this concept. I did a quick anatomical study on cats, using reference images or drawing my cats every so often to get a better idea of how to draw a cat.
