Mark Making
In this illustration, I return to a more digital painting, video game, or animation style for this illustration. I wanted it to seem more put together and clean than some of the other stylistic choices I've made. The framing of it is meant to feel more tight and condensed, having the width of the character go outside of the frame itself. The strokes are more controlled in this piece then they are others.
Idea
This particular illustration is meant to represent compulsions, (Thoughts, urges, or behaviors that persist despite negatively affecting health, job, or relationships.). Chao is attempting to pull or rip off her mechanical arm in what represents an attempt to rid herself of this "imperfection". It's not something she would in any sense want to do, given it would harm her to some capacity, yet she still does it to satiate whatever compulsive thoughts are present.
Materials/Technique
I used procreate to do this, digital being my media of choice. I used a mix of default and custom brushes to complete it, but went about the whole thing as I normally would, sketching it out, blocking out color, setting out basic shadows, and then rendering and smoothing out the whole ilustration.
Relevance to the Project
I think this is one of the most important illustrations in the SI as a whole, given how prominent of a concept compulsions tend to be. The order I'm going about these isn't in the necessary order, but looking at this piece in relevance to the others, it's pretty high up in importance.
