The Process
The concept for this piece was an image in an image in an image. To go about doing this I wanted to play around with the idea of recordings and surveillance cameras. The cool colors gave it a more relaxed and laid-back vibe to match her simple expression. The focus wasn't to be brought to her face which is why it lacks any stand-out details. I wanted it to be simple enough to recognize her face both on the tv monitor and outside it as well. With the sketch, I had already created a second dimension with the TV, which put across the concept I was trying to achieve. But to elevate this to another level, I added a crack to both the screen of the TV as well as overlaid the entirety of the illustration, in order to give the illusion the girl on the TV is also encased in another screen. This created another dimension that made the piece look more expansive.
Wow, Maya, your take on this project is truly unique in many ways. I was impressed by how you used space by creating many laying. with the tv screen to cracks on it, when viewing your piece, many thoughts come to mind such as "what is the meaning behind all of the screens?" The lingering feeling your piece has on the audience is truly extrodinary. Great job! :)
In a technical aspect, I think you pulled off the cracked appearance extremely well. The sudden break in the image catches the viewer's attention immediately, and the intentional placement of what had more detail versus what was meant to be more of a secondary part was done skillfully. Overall, I love the vibe it emits in the final piece!
I really like the way you used lighting to accentuate the piece in the right areas. It brought a lot of life to the final product!
