FORshortened Project Progress

For my FORshortened project, I wanted to use it as an opportunity to work on my Sustained Investigation. This meant I had to design a character and figure out the general idea of the world I want this piece to take place. Conceptually, my sustained investigation is meant to convey the chaos that comes with struggling with mental health. This particular piece is meant to represent holding on to the last thread of hope, or normalcy before breaking down, or emotionally "dropping" or in the case of these illustrations, literally.

In terms of making assumptions about this character at first glance, I wanted her to seem "broken" which is a feeling that typically accompanies acknowledging an issue with an individual's mental health. Despite this, I intentionally gave her a physically strong build. She is meant to be seen as if there is something wrong with her at first, yet that doesn't overshadow her other physical traits.

Here, I was figuring out the layout of the piece that I wanted to work with. I found an image for the background, being a ground view fisheye lens of a city. Using a fisheye lens gives me the freedom to use funky proportions, which I wanted to play around with since I didn't do that often. Since we needed to have a picture we took as a reference, I had my friend stand on a table and let me take an image from down below.

This is simply what I have so far. I have made some adjustments from the general pose I originally had but still stayed true to the general proportions of the reference photo I took. I am about to start the process of background.
